How grants can help pay for the work.

Some Canadian programs can pay up to half of approved costs. Your firm and the work must qualify. Here is how I help you apply, one step at a time.

Check if you fit

Ten steps, and who does each one.

Scroll to follow one application from first call to paid claim. The dot shows who has it: your team, me, or the funder.

Step 1 of 10

Check the fit.

A short call. We look at where you are, how big you are, how tariffs touch your business, and what you want to fix.

You
Bring your province, rough revenue, and the task that slows your team down.
Me
I check which federal and regional programs could match.

Step 2 of 10

Pick the program.

Each region has its own funder and its own rules. I read the current rules and confirm the open questions with the program office.

You
Tell me which programs you already use.
Me
I never promise a percentage before the program confirms it.

Step 3 of 10

Gather the facts.

An application needs real paperwork: financials, quotes, ownership details and project facts. I coordinate with your team to collect it, and I chase what is missing.

You
Point me to the right people and send what I ask for.
Me
I keep one checklist so nobody is asked twice.

Step 4 of 10

Write the application.

I do the heavy lifting: the project plan, the budget lines and the case for funding. Some programs want a second quote. I tell you early.

You
Answer my follow-up questions.
Me
I write every section and explain it.

Step 5 of 10

Review and sign.

You check every number and every claim about your firm, then sign. The application is yours.

You
Check each figure, then sign.
Me
I walk you through every line.

Step 6 of 10

Apply, then the funder reviews.

I submit the application, under your name where the program allows. Most programs only fund work that begins after you apply, so we do not start paid work until it is safe. The funder may ask questions, and I help you answer.

You
Answer any follow-up questions.
Me
I confirm the start-date rule first, and I tell you the stated timeline.

Step 7 of 10

Sign the funding agreement.

It sets what is funded, the milestones, and how you claim. We read it together before you sign.

You
Read it, ask questions, sign.
Me
I explain each clause in plain words.

Step 8 of 10

Build and keep the records.

I build in phases that match the milestones. Invoices and proof of payment go into one folder as we go.

You
Approve each phase.
Me
I build it and keep the paper trail.

Step 9 of 10

Claim and report.

I prepare each claim and progress report for you to review and send. The funder pays eligible costs under the terms of the agreement.

You
Review and send each claim. Ask early whether you pay first and are paid back.
Me
I assemble the claim package.

Step 10 of 10

Get paid back, then check the tax credit.

Eligible costs come back under the agreement. If part of the build involves real technical uncertainty, we check SR&ED at tax time. It only covers that slice.

You
Share the records with your accountant.
Me
I help you separate the eligible work.

Where is your business?

Each region has its own funder and its own rules. Pick yours to see what I check first.

British Columbia

Funder: PacifiCan

Consultant and technical fees are named as eligible in the program guide.

Tariff exposure and company size tests apply.

Programs I look at first.

Checked September 2026. Program terms change, so I re-check the current rules before we apply.

  • Regional Tariff Response Initiative

    Run by each regional funder

Can pay up to half of eligible costs for projects that help a business adapt, as a non-repayable contribution. Tariff exposure and company size tests apply, and they differ by region.

  • NGen Industrial AI Readiness

    Up to $15,000

Reimburses the fees for an AI readiness review and an implementation plan. Small, and a good first step.

  • SR&ED tax credit

    Through your tax return

Covers only the part of a build that involves real technical uncertainty. We look at it once the work is scoped.

  • NRC IRAP

    Advisor-led

Assessed case by case with an industrial technology advisor. No fixed percentage is published.

  • BDC financing

    A loan, not a grant

Useful to cover costs while you wait for a claim to be paid.

What grants will not do.

Nothing is certain.

Approval depends on your firm, your project and what the program has left. I never promise a percentage before the funder confirms it.

Part of the cost, not all.

Programs pay a share of approved costs. The rest is yours, and some costs are not covered at all.

The application is yours.

I draft it and explain every line. You check it, sign it and answer for it.

Start with a fit check.

A short call. Bring your province, your rough revenue, and the task that slows your team down. I tell you which programs are worth a look and which are not.
